Ascension would have been two weeks ago, so not that. Perhaps we should learn from our iberian cousins, and have a few more reasons to dress up and have a party. Although I can't see the point of bank holidays anymore 🤣
This is a much bigger place than I was expecting, big marina and huge holiday complex with loads of bars and restaurants and the ones that are open are busy even on a Sunday in February, probably they come from Adra. A lot of people living on their boats too judging by the amount of mail in the marina office. Almerimar is a tiny place on the map, I'm not even sure whether there is an old original pueblo.
My destination, Almeria marina, is not open to visiting boats so I have booked in here, Aguadulce, for another 19 nights. Almeria is only 15 minutes away on the bus and people tell me that this is a better place to keep a boat anyway. And I've met someone living on their boat here who used to be a member of the sailing club in Tollesbury. It is very sheltered here, a sun trap in a bay under a towering cliff, flat calm when the wind is howling out at sea. I wouldn't like to be here in the summer though, it must be like an oven. View from the top over the sea of plastic. and down into the marina.

ReplyDeleteFound some really helpful advice about what to do if you encounter killer Orca's Brendan....
ReplyDeletetaken from todays Telegraph https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/05/14/killer-whales-orcas-sink-yacht-couple-rescued-gibraltar/
'In the event of an incident, sailors have been advised to keep motors running and head for shallower coastal waters.'...
just in case you were tempted to cut the engine and head out to deeper sea😜! (Glad you've passed Gibraltar all the same)
Thanks Carmel but I think the best advice is to keep your fingers crossed.
