Tuesday 6th of August. Santurtzi marina. Bilbao.

The Santurtzi tourist office offer 2 free nights in the marina for visiting boats but then I have to leave, but then I can come back after a day and get another 2 nights free! Then that's it, no more. Still, what a generous thing to do.
I think the people in the boat next to me are Russians, at first I thought they were just unfriendly, ignoring my waves and not catching my eye, unsociable boaters. But now I think that maybe they don't want to get into a conversation with anyone and they don't fly their flag in case the subject of Ukraine comes up. I don't know if I should feel sorry for them or maybe that's what Russians are like.

  1. Your instincts are probably right ... about them keeping a low profile: Pat and I met three young Russian men who rented our apartment in Cadiz. They were polite, charming and very good company. They were engineers working on some project in Algeciras. We invited them to the boat and had a short trip out the harbour. I have a photo of them and us, the last one taken of Pat before he died.

  2. Steve : You could try flying a Ukrainian flag - see what their reaction is ! (Or perhaps not)
